Medical executive reads and memorises better than before
Despite the convenient transport system, Mdm Lee Swee Hoon makes it a point to walk to work. On average, the full-time medical executive travels to work by foot three times weekly.
62-year-old Mdm Lee started attending NSA courses after being inspired to improve on her existing soft skills such as communication. This included “Achieving peak performance with Mental Skills, Emotional Strength & Team Approach” at Nanyang Technological University (NTU). After the course, she admits to being able to read, memorise and retain information better than before. This has certainly been beneficial for her not just in daily life but also at work.
“It is not just about upgrading and upskilling, but to keep oneself up to date and ensure one’s mind is still functionally good!” she says.
Forging new friendships
During her leisure time, Mdm Lee enjoys catching up with her friends and have also travelled with them previously. She recognises the importance of relationships and believes that people should always be open in expanding their social circle.
To Mdm Lee, a strong network of friends allows one to stay mentally active and age gracefully. She feels that participating in courses is a good way to meet new people and forge friendships, and therefore is always open to joining them.
Learning is everywhere
For Mdm Lee, learning is possible everywhere and it gives her a fresh perspective to things. She finds herself learning from books, newspapers and conversations with people. In fact, the avid reader shared that she has been reading up on commentaries due to her growing interest in health these days! To improve her wellness levels, she has also taken up NSA courses “Brain Gym for Mental Fitness” and “Conscious Dance – Medicine in Motion” by SACE.
In the future, she hopes to attend other NSA courses such as photography to upgrade herself while staying relevant. And when asked if there were any reasons for her interest in particular courses, “I hope to fulfil the dreams from my younger days!”, she shared while laughing.
**Special thanks to Mdm Lee Swee Hoon who accepted our interview, we wish her all the very best in her lifelong learning journey.
